Producing for KCUR’s Up to Date
KCUR is a fast-paced, professional newsroom and NPR member station where I produced radio show segments from the first pitch to the final podcast. Producing is a bit of a catch-all job, and combines the skills of a journalist, writer, audio editor, and project manager. Every segment started with a human story. Sometimes that meant finding an idea of my own, and other times it meant running with an assignment. I researched each topic, interviewed potential guests, and made sure they were a good fit before booking them. From there, I wrote scripts that balanced background information with getting to the heart of the story and coordinated with guests all the way through their live studio interview. Once the interview was over, I wrote and recorded the intro, break, and outro, edited the segment into a podcast, and wrote the accompanying web story. From the first conversation to the final thank-you email, I was involved in every step of bringing each story to life. Below are my six favorite stories from working as a producer.
